The National Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked citizens to either adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols put in place or face the ramifications of the pandemic.

According to Sammy Awuku, these are the only options when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I keep telling people that it’s either you keep a six-feet distance, that is observing social distancing, or go six-feet below that is when you are buried,” he said on ‘Beyond the Lockdown’ with Emefa Apawu.

His comment follows a personal observation he claims to have made where people keep failing to adhere to the protocols.

According to Mr. Awuku, citizens attitude towards observing the protocols so far has been poor, a condition he indicated is not helping in the fight against the pandemic.

The former Youth Organiser for the NPP said despite several calls and public education on the impact of the virus and the need to adhere to the protocols, some people are failing to observe them.

“Sometimes it’s sad to say, it’s not everybody who is observing the social distancing. There are people wearing the masks but instead of a face mask, it’s become a chain mask because people feel they are struggling to breathe so let them take it off,” he said.

He also called for more public education on the effects of the pandemic, while insisting that the protocols must be reinforced.
