The Electoral Commission says it has exceeded its target of registering about 15 million eligible Ghanaians in the ongoing Voter Registration Exercise across the nation.

Speaking to the media at the 7th Edition of their “Let The Citizen Know” series in Accra Monday morning, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare said as at Saturday, 1st August, Day 33 out of 38, which marked the beginning of final Phase 6 of the exercise, the Commission had registered a total of 15,117, 438 eligible Ghanaians making it exceed its projected target.

Adding that at the end of the Phase 5 on Thursday, July 30, the Commission had registered 14,367,906 representing 95.5% of the total projected.

However, he added that the Commission is still open to register any eligible Ghanaian in the remaining days.

He said the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central and Eastern Regions account for almost 56 percent of the total registered as at the end of Phase 5.

Greater Accra – 3, 129, 473, Ashanti Region – 2, 563, 285, Eastern Region – 1, 366,570 and the Central Region – 1, 330, 353.
