Parliament has approved a 64 million euro credit facility for the construction of the second phase of the Kumasi Airport.
The project is expected to be undertaken by Contracta, an Engineering Firm.
The Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi, who is also the MP for Subin, disclosed this at Amanfrom in the Ashanti Region.
Eugene Boakye Antwi said a further, 178 point-five million Euro loan facility has been approved by Parliament for work to start on phase two of the Kejetia Market complex.
This will involve reconstruction of the Kumasi Central Market to provide a modern and decent centre for traders and hawkers.
Additionally, the sod is to be cut for the construction of 100 kilometres of roads within the Kumasi Metropolis.
The MP for Subin noted that already, vigorous works are ongoing on the construction of 10 critical drainage systems to contain flood waters in the Ashanti Region.
He said the region will get its fair share of socio-economic development under the NPP Government.
Mr. Boakye Antwi, therefore, appealed for calm and patience among residents in the face of what they consider to be insufficient development projects in the region.
The effort of govt to revive and grow the aviation industry, has been evidenced by the recent acquisition of some aeroplanes including 3 BOEING 787 dreamliners and 6 Dash 8 De Havilland aircraft from Canada.
This follows an announcement to commence commercial flights to the Volta regional capital of Ho.
A few months ago, Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance, told Ghana’s parliament, that the Ministry of Aviation will soon engage domestic airlines in a bid to get them to extend operations to the Ho Airport,
The usage of the Ho Airport, will open up the country for the efficient movement of people, goods and services in the eastern part of Ghana and promote tourism .”
