Former Ghana FA vice president and President of Planners Athletic Club George Akwesi Afriyie has been nominated alongside two others to form the working committee to look into the future of Division one league football.

The three members representing the various sub zones of the division one league will be joined by two others from the Ghana FA.

George Afriyie, a former Ghana FA Presidential candidate has been nominated to represent the interest of members of Zone 3 in the Division One league where his Planners Athletic club plays.

Joining him on the list of DOL reps are Bofoakwa Tano’s David Obeng Nyarko who represents Zone 1 while Jojo Duncan, President of Proud United will serve the interest of members from Zone 2. They will be joined by two persons nominated by the Ghana FA.

The Executive Council of the GFA took a decision last week to form a 5-member committee for the implementation of the transitional provision on the number of participating clubs in the National Division One League.

This 5-member ad-hoc committee would advise the Executive Council on the format, the possible name of the new 18-club Division One League, the phases of the implementation, whether or not a third-tier League will be required and its format.
The current DOL structure has 48 teams housed in 3 zones.

The move by the GFA to limit participating to 18 teams, has been fiercely opposed by some club administrators albeit it is inspired by a stipulation in the federation’s approved statutes.
