The family of former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings have expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the president of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for giving the late president a befitting burial.


These sentiments were expressed on Thursday, when the family of the late president, including the widow, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings paid a thank you visit to the Presidency.


The 73 year old former President, who was the first head of state in the fourth republic and the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), passed away on November 12, 2020, after a brief battle with illness.


The late flight lieutenant was given a 3 day state funeral and buried with full military honours at the National Military Cemetery at Burma Camp in Accra, last month.


Led by Ghana’s former Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr Victor Gbeho, the family expressed their profound gratitude to the President, his wife and officials at the Presidency for their assistance to ensure a meticulous send off for the former President.

He also touched on the friction between the family concerning the funeral preparations and the aftermath of the burial,

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his part was happy with the dignified manner, the former president was buried not only because Jerry Rawlings was a predecessor but also because he had also developed a special relationship with him.

He was also happy the family feud over the funeral preparations were now a solved matter and wished the family well.
